Political snapshot: Contra Costa County gets bluer

Monday, November 26, 2012

Exit polling from the election shows that Contra Costa County, once among the Bay Area’s last Republican outposts, is bluer than ever. Pollster Alex Evans tells the CoCo Times that six of 10 county voters supported Prop 30, compared with 54 percent support statewide, and a majority supported overturning the death penalty, which of course lost statewide. Republicans outnumber Democrats in just two communities—Danville and Clayton. And in Clayton, the difference is by only 19 people.

For the record, no Republican holds a partisan office in the entire nine-county Bay Area, including Contra Costa.
