Port of Oakland's chief executive ‘retires’ amid Texas strip club scandal

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Already suspended Port of Oakland executive director Omar Benjamin chose Veterans Day to announce that he will “retire” immediately in the aftermath of that $4,500 tab on the public’s dime at a Houston strip club back in 2008 and which only recently came to light. The port’s maritime director, James Kwon, also suspended, originally took the fall while Benjamin said he had no recollection of being at the club. Turns out Benjamin not only was there, but he apparently pawned the bill off on his underling. Mercury News
