CBS Sports breaks the news, citing an unnamed source . . .
From athletics director Sandy Barbour’s statement this morning, as reported by AP:
"This was an extraordinarily difficult decision, one that required a thorough and thoughtful analysis of a complex set of factors. Ultimately, I believed that we needed a change in direction to get our program back on the right track."
The Tedford era thus ends after 11 seasons, nine of them winning, with an overall 82-57 record that included eight (mostly minor) bowl games, of which Cal won five. But he won only 23 games in the last four years and this season’s 3-9 mark was his worst despite a string of impressive recruiting classes.
Here’s the just-moved AP story.
