Shoplifter to succeed drug addict? Voters say ‘no’ to Mary Hayashi

Assemblywoman and convicted shoplifter Mary Hayashi, whose deep pockets and successful avoidance of her legal woes during the campaign had some pundits regarding her as a threat to win the supervisor seat recently held by drug-and-sex scandal plagued Nadia Lockyer, appears to have finished third in a pack of four candidates. Voters chose to go with appointed interim supervisor and former Union City councilman Richard Valle. Oakland Tribune
