But his $50,000 pay boost over predecessor Robert Birgeneau at a time of heightened austerity, tuition increases and reduced student services, not to mention open opposition from Gov. Jerry Brown, didn’t play well. State Sen. Leland Yee quickly said he’ll reintroduce a bill to restrict executive pay hikes at UC and Cal State campuses.
