The son of longtime former college coach Spike Dykes who was 22-15 during three years of rebuilding at Louisiana Tech, capped by this year’s a 9-3 record, will be introduced officially tomorrow as Cal’s new head coach replacing the fired Jeff Tedford. A presser is scheduled for 2 p.m.
With a penchant for wide open offenses, his Louisiana Tech team this season averaged 51.5 points per game, most in the NCAA. Dykes, 43, was among several coaches at so-called mid-major schools in the mix for the Cal job, including San Jose State’s Mike MacIntyre and Kent State’s Darrell Hazell, who was just hired as Purdue’s new coach.
