Court overturns socialite’s lawsuit against George Lucas, slams trial judge

Remember that discrimination lawsuit that Julie Gilman Veronese won against director George Lucas in 2010, claiming that his Lucasfilm Ltd. unfairly terminated her from a job she never started after learning she was pregnant? An appeals court has overturned it, vacating the $1.2 million in legal fees to Veronese’s lawyer and mother-in-law, Angela Alioto. The three-judge panel slammed judge Lynn O’Malley Taylor for an error-riddled trial that it called “a miscarriage of justice.”

Veronese, wife of former San Francisco police commissioner Joe Veronese, was to have gone to work as an assistant to Lucas’ household manager. The filmmaker testified at trial that he’d never heard of her and his lawyer portrayed her as a “narcissistic socialite.” Marin IJ
