Last call for Bear’s Lair: a Cal landmark passes into memory

Sunday, December 9, 2012

No more Beat the Clock Fridays for cheap brew at Bear’s Lair, UC Berkeley’s venerable on-campus pub. It’s closed as part of the Lower Sproul Plaza renovation which, among other things, will see the student union building in which it was housed gutted and re-built to twice its size and Eshleman Hall razed and replaced. The Chronicle’s Carolyn Jones notes:

The new Eshleman will probably have a pub, and it might be called the Bear's Lair, but it won't be in the same spot as the old Bear's Lair and it will not likely have the same grizzled, friendly ambience.
