Outrage after mountain lion cubs shot and killed in Half Moon Bay backyard

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

No surprise. There’s outrage after state Fish and Game wardens shot and killed two mountain lion cubs in the background of a home in Half Moon Bay over the weekend. The Mercury News says the explanation for not trying to tranquilize them: officers on scene were afraid they’d escape and pose a public threat. Speculation is that the cubs—9 months old and weighing less than 30 pounds—were likely siblings whose mother had died.

The photo by homeowner Mark Andermahr shows one of the cubs shortly before being assassinated put down.
