49ers’ South Bay stadium: might it open with no name?

Monday, January 21, 2013

The 49ers might actually move into their new Santa Clara stadium in 2014 without some loony-sounding (i.e., Monster.com) corporate moniker attached to the building. Appears they don’t yet have a naming rights deal in place—a deal that they’d hoped would pay a chunk of the stadium’s $1.2 billion price tag.

A former Niners executive tells the Chronicle there still will likely be plenty of suitors. With Oracle Arena on the endangered list as a future white elephant, I’m guessing Larry Ellison might have something in mind.
