Ever since the city’s first parking meter was installed at Bush and Polk streets back in 1947 it’s been free to park on Sundays. Until now. The change took place quietly yesterday, although no tickets are being issued during a three-week grace period. The aim: relieve congestion and encourage public transportation. Oh, and it will also add $2 million a year to the city’s coffers. Chronicle
