Al Jazeera flushes Newsom, Granholm from the Current TV pocket

Monday, January 7, 2013

That Al Gore et al would sell little-watched Current TV to Al Jazeera, the Qatar government-owned Arab news channel, must have come as a bolt to Gavin Newsom and other Democratic Party functionaries that populate the Current lineup. The Lite Guv, host of the eponymous “The Gavin Newsom Show,” was quick to let it be known he won’t be sticking around (surprise, surprise). Jennifer Granholm, the ex-Michigan governor who also has a teaching gig at UC Berkeley but doesn’t have an electorate to deal with, says she’ll shove off from her show, “The War Room,” in the spring. (Either that, or accept redeployment to Syria?)

As for Newsom, the Chronicle’s Matier & Ross dropped word in Sunday’s column that “he’s already been approached about taking his weekly show to another network,” adding:

Newsom will also be keeping busy visiting other chat shows, including "Real Time With Bill Maher" and "The Colbert Report," to promote his new book. The lieutenant governor's "Citizenville" is billed as a light read on "how to take the town square digital and reinvent government."

What, and you thought he was going to play at being a full-time lieutenant governor?
