San Francisco’s embattled housing director, Henry Alvarez, with three lawsuits against him and a litany of complaints about bullying and intimidation, isn’t likely to go voluntarily. Not before July, anyway, when he’ll be fully vested in CalPERS, the state retirement system, after five years (yes, it is sweet, isn’t it?). That would let him claim pension and health care benefits for life. Whether he makes it until then depends much on Mayor Ed Lee, who’s known about Alvarez’s workplace issues for a couple of years without showing much interest. Chronicle
