The Chronicle’s C. W. Nevius tackles the question of why there seems to be a tad less excitement in San Francisco over the 49ers’ return to the Super Bowl after 18 years than you’d expect. If you accept the premise—and plenty of people do—does one need to look much farther than the team’s imminent abandonment of the city for San Jose, er, Santa Clara?
