Sacramento Kings announce deal to sell, move to Seattle

Monday, January 21, 2013

After months (no, make that years) of speculation, the Sacramento Kings confirmed this morning the team has been sold to a group headed by San Francisco-based investor Chris Hansen. The sale, which has been estimated to be for around $340 million for the Maloof brothers’ 65 percent share (that’s three of the brothers pictured), must be approved by the NBA.

The Maloofs issued a statement devoid of details. It’s widely assumed that if the deal flies, Hansen’s group will move the team to Seattle, where they’re in talks to build a new arena, and resurrect the franchise as the SuperSonics. Sac Bee
