After luring the 49ers from San Francisco, Santa Clara was giddy at the chance of hosting a Super Bowl in 2016 or 2017. Now the prospect doesn’t look quite as rosy, thanks to a slew of financial give-backs the NFL is demanding in order to consider a bid. The Mercury News’ Mike Rosenberg says the NFL wants big chunks of tax revenue and deep discounts to lease the stadium (shown here under construction) and other facilities—and it wants a commitment from the city in a few weeks.
