Super Bowl malaise falls over pols from the 49ers’ ‘hometowns’

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Quick head count of top politicos not attending Sunday’s Super Bowl in New Orleans from the Chronicle’s Matier & Ross reveals that both Mayor Ed Lee and Santa Clara mayor Jamie Matthews will be no-shows. Also not going: Santa Clara County assessor and four-time Super Bowl attendee Larry Stone. Ditto for U. S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who, you may recall, made some early noises about trying to prevent the Niners from using the San Francisco name once they abandon the city. She’s a fan, but jokingly refers to them as the Santa Clara Microchips.

One pol who does plan to be there: Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
