A month later, Mayor Quan isn’t divulging much about her DC junket

Monday, February 11, 2013

If you missed it, as I did, Matthai Kuruvila’s Chronicle piece Friday on how Oakland Mayor Jean Quan can’t, or won’t, offer specifics about her inaugural week trip to Washington last month is a glimpse at junketeering at its best. The taxpayer’s tab: $5,600. At least that’s what the mayor’s spokesman says. An excerpt:

What she specifically discussed during her meetings with federal officials is a bit more of a mystery. A request for her itinerary resulted in a list of agencies and times, but not specific names. They included the State Department, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the White House office of Governmental Affairs.

Quan said the various agencies requested the anonymity.

One official that Quan said she visited was . . . are you ready for this? . . . Congresswoman Barbara Lee of Oakland.
