Coming in the not-too-distant future to a Bay Area freeway near you: the ability to buy your way into carpool lanes by paying a toll. Caltrans says it hopes to have 90 miles of the area’s most congested freeway stretches up and running with the system by the end of 2015. The Chronicle writes about it, and has a map of the first three target zones, including the notorious stretch of I-80 between Oakland the Carquinez Bridge.
