Bay Trail deadlock at Golden Gate Fields—racetrack plays enviro card

Monday, February 11, 2013

For years now the owners of Golden Gate Fields, the shoreline racetrack in Albany, have been promising to provide access to a key missing link to the Bay Trial outside the racetrack’s grandstand. And for years nothing has happened. So in 2011 the East Bay Regional Parks District commenced imminent domain proceedings. The Mercury News provides an update today: the racetrack is fighting it in court on “environmental” grounds, saying there needs to be an environmental review first.

Critics of the racetrack say what it really wants is to leverage the trail link to future development plans there.
