San Jose airport officials are giddy over the prospect of Google financing an $82-million general aviation facility at the airport that would include a private terminal, hangars and other facilities primarily for Google’s fleet of business jets. (That’s a rendering of the terminal, provided by the airport.) Other private jets would also use the facility.
Left unsaid, for now, is how the private airport-within-an-airport will impact plans for historic Hangar One at nearby Moffett Field. Google had offered to pay for the restoration of the dirigible hangar in exchange for the use of two-thirds of it for its jet fleet. Mercury News
