Is Super Bowl the new Christmas? Oh yeah, there’s also the football

Monday, February 4, 2013

This post is for football fans. The rest of you may read if you like: Wonderful little survey at SFGate this morning which illustrates the extent to which the hyper-commercialized Super Bowl has been hijacked as an event that caters mostly to folks who know little about and probably care even less about the NFL. Survey question: Most memorable moment of the Super Bowl?

As of 9:30 a.m., nearly one in three respondents (32.2 percent) were saying it was either the Sandy Hook choir’s appearance, Beyonce’s halftime show, or a beer commercial. The largest single grouping, “blackout, then Niners rally” (35.9%) is sort of a mixed bag between football and a power failure. Results here.
