As expected, Mayor Ed Lee has named the District 4 supervisor as the city’s assessor to replace Phil Ting, who was elected to the state Assembly in November. It will mean a pay bump from the $105,723 Chu earns as a supe to $173,736. But she isn’t being sworn in just yet. The mayor will wait until he picks a replacement for her and says he will decide by March 4. In other words, a new mini-season of political maneuvering just opened. Chronicle
