  • Texas Gov. Rick Perry, during a swaggering swing into California as part of a jobs poaching effort, chided the state as having fallen behind Texas in creating jobs. Mercury News
  • A UC Berkeley law student pleaded not guilty to felony animal cruelty charges stemming from the decapitation of a rare bird in a Las Vegas hotel’s wildlife habitat last October. AP
