San Francisco’s historic Bethel AME church fires
Rev. John J. Hunter

Sunday, February 10, 2013

The prominent minister, who was booted from Los Angeles’ oldest African American Episcopal church last year and reassigned to San Francisco’s oldest black church, Bethel AME, despite financial irregularities in LA, has been fired from his San Francisco post. The Los Angeles Times broke the story Saturday. SFGate posts wire copy today, citing the LAT.

Hunter, you may recall, was rejected by the San Francisco congregation, with church leaders physically preventing him from taking the pulpit back in November. He has filed a civil lawsuit against those leaders.
