Cal, Saint Mary’s make NCAA tournament cut

Sunday, March 17, 2013

The Bay Area’s two tournament worthy programs each got in the NCAA tournament as selections were announced this afternoon. Cal got the better deal. A 12th seed, the Golden Bears (20-11) drew a rematch with No. 5 UNLV (25-9), at San Jose’s HP Pavilion. It will be Cal's first NCAA tournament game in the Pacific time zone in half a century. Meanwhile, Saint Mary’s (27-6), despite being an 11th seed, was among the last teams chosen, and faces a play-in game against Middle Tennessee State (28-5), also an 11th seed, in Dayton, Ohio.
