The Bay Area’s two tournament worthy programs
each got in the NCAA tournament as selections were announced this afternoon. Cal got the better deal. A 12th seed, the Golden Bears (20-11) drew a rematch with No. 5 UNLV (25-9), at San Jose’s HP Pavilion. It will be Cal's first NCAA tournament game in the Pacific time zone in half a century. Meanwhile, Saint Mary’s (27-6), despite being an 11th seed, was among the last teams chosen, and faces a play-in game against Middle Tennessee State (28-5), also an 11th seed, in Dayton, Ohio.
