The former Raiders coach who found himself out of a job after Al Davis’ death—and never one given to self-underestimation—tells Sports Illustrated that the late Raiders owner wanted him to be the Raiders’ general manager but that he turned it down. The offer supposedly came in 2010, before he took the job as Raiders offensive coordinator that ultimately resulted in his being head coach when Tom Cable got the ax. Jackson asserts that he told Davis he preferred coaching and working with players.
Jackson is coaching running backs for the Cincinnati Bengals these days. He put his name in the hat for the Cal coaching job before Sonny Dykes was hired.
