Muni has agreed to pay $900,000 to the widow of former Oakland Tribune reporter Bill Brand, who was struck and killed by a Muni train in 2009. Brand, a nationally-recognized beer critic, was struck and killed near Second and King while heading home to Berkeley after covering a beer-tasting event. The agency agreed to the settlement in closed session yesterday. Chronicle; Examiner
