Officials upbeat about landing 2016 Super Bowl for the Bay Area

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Word from Santa Clara, where mayors and other officials from San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose and elsewhere gathered at the 49ers stadium under construction today: they’re optimistic about landing the 2016 Super Bowl. Also of note, the stadium is 35 percent complete and on schedule to open in 2014 (the 49ers photo is from November). But maybe the most interesting thing is the way the Super Bowl bid is being handled and referred to. It isn’t a San Francisco bid, or a Santa Clara bid. It’s a Bay Area bid. Mercury News

So after the move, maybe the team should call themselves the Golden State 49ers. (Just kidding.)
