Rocket Ship of the Embarcadero to blast off—to Oakland

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

The “Raygun Gothic Rocketship” familiar to all along the Embarcadero near the Ferry Building was to be on loan as public art for a year. It has stayed two. And now it’s returning to Five Ton Crane, the volunteer group of artists funded by private donors and its Oakland studio, NBC Bay Area says. Next mission: unknown.

Related: Huffington Post SF adds that the Rocket Ship was originally built for Burning Man and the artists behind it say it was once launched off the ground, “however, the claim is suspicious considering the sculpture does not have an engine.”
