Saint Mary’s, which posted a 27-6 record for the season yet barely managed to be invited to the NCAA tournament, defeated Middle Tennessee State 67-54 last night in Dayton, Ohio in a so-called “play-in” game. That means the Gaels, seeded 11th in the Midwest regional, advance to the bracket of 64. They face 6th-seeded Memphis (30-4) tomorrow at Auburn Hills, Michigan. Mercury News
