Musicians at San Francisco Symphony weren’t just blowing smoke when they threatened to strike. As of today, they’re striking—for the first time since 1997. The work stoppage immediately casts doubt on the symphony’s planned East Coast tour, including a date at Carnegie Hall. Violist David Gaudry of the players’ negotiating committee tells the Chronicle’s Joshua Kosman that it’s “about the money.”
Symphony musicians may be well paid, but they’re apparently sore that management is trying to hold the line at a time when they say executive director Brent Assink and others in top management have received raises.
