This is pretty exciting stuff: the state’s earthquake warning system that’s being beta tested actually worked Monday to give seismologists in Pasadena a 35 second notice before a 4.7 magnitude quake shook a wide swath of desert in Riverside County. There’s already a bill in the hopper to implement such a warning system statewide by upgrading 400 monitoring stations and adding 200 others, and one would expect Monday’s success will fuel the effort.
