A month after those bad bolts were discovered on the Bay Bridge, Caltrans continues to struggle with public relations over how to deal with the mess. Until now, officials have kept up a brave front, implying that problems with one of the bridge’s key seismic safety features shouldn’t thwart the long-planned day-after-Labor Day grand opening.
