This morning’s 107th observance of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire was noteworthy for a couple of reasons: It was the first not attended by a survivor. Winnie Hook, 107, decided at the last minute it was too difficult. The other thing: the 5:12 a.m. observance—attended by about 250 people—was moved from its usual location at Lotta’s Fountain on Market Street to Union Square after a suspicious package was spotted nearby. It turned out to be a suitcase filled with clothes. Chronicle
[SF Appeal says that another survivor, Bill Del Monte, did attend an annual survivors’ dinner at John’s Grill on Ellis Street Wednesday afternoon.]
