In Moraga, school officials once again circle the wagons over sex scandal

Monday, April 1, 2013

Move over Penn State. The Merc’s Contra Costa Times edition deserves props for its coverage of a child sex abuse scandal at a Moraga middle school that began in the 1990s. One teacher at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School accused of molesting several students committed suicide; another (former PE teacher Julie Correa, pictured) was sent to prison. The kicker: after years of covering up what was going on, the Moraga School District now argues that a lawsuit brought by one of the victims should be tossed . . . on grounds that it was filed too late.

Here’s a must-read piece from last week about a former teacher at the school who was disparaged and chased off when she tried to blow the whistle.
