Sac Bee’s Nevada patient-dumping scoop sparks a San Francisco probe

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Kudos to the Sacramento Bee for its series exposing how the state has given one-way bus tickets to at least 1,500 psychiatric patients since 2008 to “dump” them across the country. Bus receipts show 500 of the patients from the Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas went to California.

Of those, 30 were bused to San Francisco. Yesterday, city attorney Dennis Herrera was the first public official into the pool, so to speak, announcing a formal investigation of the alleged patient-dumping. Sacramento Bee; Chronicle
