The Sacramento Bee, which has been all over the safety concerns related to the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge, says Caltrans is now reviewing whether those large bolts that broke last month had failed quality-control tests by the agency’s materials lab. And while the jury is still out on that, as well as what to do about the problem, there’s further unsettling news. The bolts were manufactured by the same Ohio company, Dyson Corp., that has built at least 14 other parts for the suspension span that have failed Caltrans quality tests already. That’s according to Caltrans records obtained by The Bee, which has a (pay-walled) story.
