While Jerry was away Gavin turns to artichokes, avocados, almonds, rice

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

There’s a pattern here but hard to tell what it means. During Gov. Jerry Brown’s recent trip to China and while Lite Guv Gavin Newsom was acting governor, Newsom decreed the following:

  • The artichoke as the state vegetable;
  • The avocado as the state fruit;
  • The almond as the state nut;
  • Rice as the state grain.

Says the LA Times: “Somewhere in the Central Valley, there’s an angry quinoa lobby plotting its revenge.”
