After firing staffers, new Patch CEO calls the fallen ‘Patchers for life’

Monday, May 20, 2013

It’s only Monday but new Patch CEO Steve Kalin already deserves this week’s Tin Ear Award for dumbest layoff announcement—media division. For maximum effect, it’s maybe best read with spoon depressing tongue:

These employees have contributed greatly to Patch’s business with passion and dedication. We sincerely thank them for all they have done to make Patch what it is today. Their impact will always be felt here. We wish all affected employees continued success. They are truly Patchers for life.

Seems the Patch hyperlocal machine is reducing its 20 regional editorial centers to nine. Does that mean Bay Area Patch outlets will now be edited from Salt Lake City? Let us know, someone. Poynter writes about it.
