“Quite simply incredible” was the way Mayor Ed Lee described Apple’s plans for a store at Post and Stockton streets. That was a couple of weeks ago. Now that a furor has erupted over the removal of artist Ruth Asawa’s public fountain along Stockton Street to accommodate the store, the mayor is having second thoughts. “We weren’t necessarily focused on that side. It wasn’t part of our discussion,” he tells the Chronicle.
