Rite of spring—Yosemite’s Tioga Pass opens Saturday

Thursday, May 9, 2013

The 9,943-foot pass that guards Yosemite’s eastern flank is scheduled to open Saturday. It’s the fourth-earliest opening in the last three decades, owing to the light snowpack, blogs Chronicle outdoors columnist Tom Stienstra. Glacier Point, the lookout towering over Half Dome, and three other Yosemite area passes, Sonora, Ebbetts and Monitor, have already opened.
