The longtime KGO host, whose wit, charm and humor made his a familiar voice in the Bay Area for the better part of two decades, died Saturday at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He was 72, and had suffered a series of strokes in recent years. The erudite Burns was a popular fixture at KGO from 1995 to 2011, when he and other longtime on-air staffers were purged in a format shift. He was scooped up by KKSF (910 AM) in January of last year, but suffered a debilitating stroke before making it to air. Obit: Chronicle
