Coming of age in her father’s gay world in San Francisco

Sunday, June 9, 2013

FairylandAlysia Abbott’s memoir of growing up in San Francisco under the care of her gay father, the late writer Steve Abbott, is out. It’s called “Fairyland: a memoir of my father,” and is based largely on her dad’s journals, which she found after he died from AIDS-related complications in 1992, when she was 22. Chronicle has a pay-walled review today. Here’s an NPR piece and link to Abbott’s recent Fresh Air interview with Terry Gross.
