DNA swab brings new charge against disgraced ex-pol George Shirakawa Jr.

The former Santa Clara County supervisor is to be sentenced today for stealing public money while in office. And he’ll also be arraigned on a new charge: as the person behind a fraudulent 2010 campaign mailer smearing child advocate Magdalena Carrasco in a San Jose city council race against former Shirakawa aide Xavier Campos, who won. What got him busted for that? The DNA swab he was required to give upon being booked on other felony charges. Mercury News
