The quick grab news headline that went out around the country over the weekend was that someone paid $1 million to have lunch (along with up to seven guests) with Warren Buffett to benefit San Francisco’s Glide Foundation. Sounds like a lot, and it is. But actually it’s a borderline disaster for the folks at Glide, who pulled in $3.46 million for their annual charity lunch last year and were expecting—hoping—to cross the $4 million threshold with Buffett.
Last year’s take amounted to about 20 percent of the non-profit’s annual budget, and SF Business Times says Glide founders, the Rev. Cecil Williams and wife Janice Mirikitani, may now be looking at layoffs.
