KRON 4’s parent company throws in with another small broadcaster

Thursday, June 6, 2013

New Young Broadcasting (the name hatched by Young Broadcasting following a 2009 bankruptcy) will be subsumed within Virginia-based Media General Inc., which owns 18 mostly mid-market stations in the South. Privately-owned New Young has 12 stations, with the Bay Area its largest market. KRON’s corporate bosses will now be in Richmond instead of New York. The new company will be known as Media General and overseen by current Media General president and CEO George Mahoney although the presser says that New Young shareholders will have controlling ownership as the result of the merger. Screen capture is of KRON stalwarts Darya Folsom and Gary Radnich.
