Lawmaker calls for expanded probe of Bay Bridge problems

Harbinger of more official scrutiny of the Bay Bridge fiasco? State Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) wants to expand the scope of the expert panel assigned to look into structural stability of the eastern span’s tower foundation to include more recent problems with broken and suspect bolts and the corroded tendons on its skyway viaduct. If lawmakers approve, that should pretty much guarantee an onslaught of more bad press for Caltrans, perhaps well past when the bridge opens, whenever that turns out to be. Sacramento Bee
