Paula Deen fired by Food Network

Friday, June 21, 2013

The Queen of Southern Cooking, who revealed in a deposition to a civil lawsuit that she had used a racial epithet—the N-word—nearly three decades ago as well as made other racially charged comments, was fired by the Food Network today. The network’s announcement regarding one of its most recognizable stars, who is 66, was terse: “Food Network will not renew Paula Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of this month.”

Before her dismissal was announced, Deen canceled an appearance on NBC’s Today Show and then issued an apology in a video posted to YouTube. It was shortly thereafter removed, followed by a second apology video (above). LA Times
