Sacramento watch: bill aimed at keeping Bay Bridge revelations from public

Monday, June 24, 2013

Latest reason why approval ratings of the state Legislature are flirting with single digits: a bill, sponsored by state Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, a Concord Democrat, to keep the work of a proposed Bay Bridge task force out of the public eye. Yes, the same Bay Bridge whose colossal screw-ups by Caltrans may have never been known without the reporting of the Sacramento Bee and other newspapers’ use of the public records act, from which the proposed new body would be exempt. The California Newspaper Publishers Association is raising a stink over Senate Bill 110. Mercury News talks with DeSaulnier, who appears to be in backpedal mode.
